Cyprus war games raise concerns for Turkey

Thousands of Greek Cypriot troops are taking part in joint military exercises with Greece, during which Greek fighters are due to land at a Cyprus air base.

Greek military planes first used the base near Paphos in the south-west of the island earlier this year, prompting a furious reaction from the breakaway Turkish-Cypriot state in the north, and from Turkey itself.

Tensions also increased following the Cyprus government's decision to press ahead with the deployment of Russian missiles.

The United Nations is continuing efforts to restart peace talks.
