Canada arrests ex-Nazi wanted in Italy

A former Nazi corporal has been arrested in Canada under an extradition warrant from Italy.

Michael Seifert, who is 73, was convicted in absentia as a Nazi war criminal and sentenced to life imprisonment by an Italian court last November.

The tribunal charged him with torture and with the murder of 11 people while he was a guard at a camp outside Bolzano near Italy's border with Austria.

Mr Seifert remained in Canada during the trial and the subsequent appeal, which he lost last year.
