In pictures: Madrid blasts
Two explosions have rocked the Spanish capital in a suspected attack by Basque separatists.
A car bomb was detonated near the Bernabeu stadium - due to host the crucial European Champions League match between the home team, Real Madrid, and Spanish rivals Barcelona. A second "tiny" bomb exploded later two kilometres away.
The first bomb exploded four hours before kick-off, destroying the car that carried it to the stadium
As ambulances arrived for the injured, police tried to secure the area
Some fans fought battles with police officers after the explosion
About 75,000 people are expected to attend the second leg of the semi-final
The tower outside which the car bomb was detonated was almost empty because of the May Day holiday
Initial reports that the tower caught fire were subsequently denied
