In pictures: Paris shooting
Eight people died when a gunman opened fire on councillors in the town hall of the Paris suburb of Nanterre. Photographers caught some of the drama of the aftermath.
A 33-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday morning
Helicopters took the most seriously injured to hospital
People comforted each other outside the town hall
Relatives were escorted to the scene by emergency services
A list was distributed with the names of the gunman's victims
President Jacques Chirac, hoping for re-election next month, arrived at the scene shortly after Prime Minister Lionel Jospin
