Karen White, 32, from Bitterne, Southampton, died instantly when a jet-ski driven by her husband Greg was in collision with Alfred Post's machine off the coast of Ayia Napa on Tuesday.

Mr Post, 28, was remanded in custody for three days by a court in Larnaca on charges of reckless driving causing death and driving a jet-ski under the influence of alcohol.

'Over the legal alcohol limit'

Investigating officer Yiannos Kapnoullas told the court Mr Post failed a breathalyser test two hours after the crash.

He said his blood alcohol level was 60 milligrams, compared with a legal limit of 39mg.

The court was told the Whites tried to flag the Dutchman down as he sped towards them but he did not stop.

Mrs White, whose husband escaped unhurt, suffered fatal injuries to the chest during the head-on collision.

Post, who was uninjured, was treated for severe shock at a private clinic in Ayia Napa.

If found guilty the Dutchman faces up to two years in jail and a £2,000 fine.
