A lock of hair from the head of Louis XVI, the king who was guillotined during the French Revolution, has been sold in auction for more than $5,000.
The lock was rescued by a drummer who was present at Louis' execution in Paris in 1793.
It was subsequently encased in a period frame embossed with the royalist crest of the fleur-de-lys. An unnamed collector bought the relic at Saturday's sale in the city of Grenoble.
