Vomiting virus closes Glasgow hospital

Health officials are meeting in Scotland to discuss the outbreak of a virus at a Glasgow hospital, which has affected more than 150 patients and staff.

The hospital, the Victoria Infirmary, has now closed its doors to all but emergency admissions.

The virus, which causes vomiting and diarrhoea, is not an unusual one, but correspondents say such a high rate of infection will raise questions about hygiene standards at the hospital.

Earlier this week, the same hospital said three elderly patients had died from a salmonella outbreak. A spokesman said the salmonella poisoning was unrelated to this virus.
