Kursk victims buried in St Petersburg
The bodies of 11 crew members of the Russian nuclear submarine, Kursk, have been buried at a ceremony in St Petersburg.
About 1,000 mourners filed past caskets heaped with wreaths at a military academy in the former imperial capital, 15 months after the vessel blew up and sank, in circumstances that are still unclear. Divers recovered 12 bodies last year, and another 57 were found when the Kursk was raised to the surface last month. A further 19 bodies are to be buried in St Petersburg later. Forty-nine crew members are still unaccounted for. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
