Serbia mass graves 'contain 400 victims'

Serbian officials say they have discovered the remains of more than 400 people in mass graves across the country.

The victims are presumed to be ethnic Albanians killed by Yugoslav forces during the Kosovo conflict.

The official leading the investigation, Dragan Karleusa, said in an interview with the Vreme newspaper most of the bodies have been unearthed in two graves at a police training centre near the capital, Belgrade.

Work on three more graves at the site - believed to contain several hundred bodies - has not yet started.

The authorities believe the bodies have been transported from Kosovo to various sites in Serbia in an effort to destroy all evidence linking the former president, Slobodan Milosevic, to war crimes.
