Milosevic's microphone tug-of-war
Milosevic was engaged in a new verbal duel with the judge in The Hague.
Slobodan Milosevic remained defiant in the court
Ex-Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic has again reacted with defiance at the war crimes tribunal, clashing for the third time with presiding judge Richard May. Here are extracts from the transcript of Monday's proceedings in The Hague.

Judge May: How do you plead - guilty or not guilty?

Milosevic (via translator): I wish to say to you that the very text that we have just heard in itself shows that the indictment is false... First of all, the parties to the conflict are being changed...

Judge May: We are not here to hear argument at the moment. The only matter is for you to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. In the event... in the event... Don't interrupt. In the event of your not entering a plea, the trial chamber has power to enter a plea of not guilty - that we will do. You will have an opportunity, as you know quite well, Mr Milosevic to address us at other times. Enter a plea of not guilty to that count.

Milosevic: continues to interrupt judge.

Judge May: We shall move on to the next part of the hearing. Mr Milosevic you will have your opportunity as I have said, to address us - now is not the time. The only matter for you to do was to enter a plea. Now that has been dealt with. We will move on to the next part of the hearing which concerns the reading of the Croatian indictment.

Milosevic: continues to press his point.

Judge: Mr Milosevic will you be quiet please.
