Rally demands Armenian head's resignation

Thousands of demonstrators have marched through the Armenian capital Yerevan demanding the resignation of President Robert Kocharian.

Police said as many as 7,000 people joined the rally which was organized by three opposition parties - the Republic Party, the People's Party of Armenia and the National Unity Association.

The organisers say Armenia needs a new government in order to guarantee the successful development of the country.

The rally took place a day before the second anniversary of an attack on the Armenian parliament, in which then Prime Minister Vazgen Sarkisian and seven other politicians were killed.
