Mass After Quake in Italy

Nearly three-hundred Italians have attended the first religious service at the medieval Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi since it was damaged by two successive earthquakes a month ago.

Worshippers entered through a side door to attend mass in the crypt of the church.

Four people were killed by falling masonry during the quakes, which damaged or destroyed several priceless frescos inside the basilica.

Thousands have been left homeless as a result of the earthquakes, which shook the central regions of Umbria and Marche and killed eleven people.
