New Milosevic charges filed
The chief prosecutor at the UN war crimes tribunal, Carla Del Ponte, has filed new charges against former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic in connection with atrocities committed in Croatia.
But Ms Del Ponte has delayed plans to indict Mr Milosevic for the crime of genocide - the tribunal's most serious charge - committed during the war in Bosnia. Mr Milosevic is already charged with crimes against humanity in connection with events that took place in Kosovo in 1999. The former president has been in detention in The Hague awaiting trial since he was whisked out of Serbia in June. He has made two defiant appearances before judges, refusing to accept the jurisdiction of the court.
