Ukraine will open airspace to US

A senior official in Kiev has said that Ukraine will allow United States military cargo aircraft to use its airspace.

The deputy speaker of the Ukrainian parliament, Viktor Medvedchuk, said the decision was made by the Security Council in response to a request from Washington.

The Ukrainian President, Leonid Kuchma, was due to meet parliamentary leaders to discuss the issue.
