Emergency landing for Canada plane
An Airbus airliner was forced to make an emergency landing in the Azores on Friday morning.

The aircraft, owned by Canadian airline Air Transat, was travelling between Toronto and Lisbon when the crew noticed a fuel leak, according to Portuguese news agency Lusa.

The pilot managed to glide the plane and land it on Terceira island, at the Lajes US air base.

News reports said nine passengers were slightly injured.

The A-330 aircraft, which was carrying 293 passengers, burst its tyres as it landed and spilled fuel onto the runway.

The airport was shut as a result.

The Azores are nine islands belonging to Portugal, located 900 miles off its coast.
