Romania pit blast 'kills 14'

Fourteen miners have been killed in an explosion at a coal mine in south-west Romania.

Two others were seriously injured in the overnight blast at a pit near the town of Vulcan and have been taken to hospital in nearby Timisoara, Romanian radio said.

The cause of the explosion has yet to be established.

So far, the charred remains of only three miners had been recovered, it added.

Dozens of other miners at the mine are refusing to go underground in case there are further explosions.
