Roma attack British immigration controls
There have been strong protests from organisations representing the Czech Republic's Roma minority against British immigration controls at Prague airport. They say the measure is racist because it only focuses on Czech citizens of Roma origin. International Roma organisations have also condemned the controls as discriminatory. UK officials have rejected the criticism, saying continued abuse of the British immigration system has made controls in Prague necessary. The measure was introduced on Wednesday because of what British officials called high numbers of Czech Roma seeking asylum in Britain. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
