Tanker boarded in Bush protest

Greenpeace have also targeted Bush's visit to Madrid
Members of environmental group Greenpeace have boarded an oil tanker in Norway, in protest at US President George W Bush's policies on global warming.

The 15 activists who boarded the Greek-registered tanker, Cosmic, at Mongstad refinery say they will try to stop it leaving for the United States.

The protest came as Mr Bush arrived in Spain at the start of a European tour, during which he is expected to face hostility over his rejection of the Kyoto accord on cutting greenhouse gases.

European governments as well as environmentalists were angered by his decision.

A tanker was also boarded by Greenpeace off the French coast on Sunday, temporarily halting its delivery of US oil to Le Havre.

In Tuesday's protest, some demonstrators sat on top of the tanker's giant anchors, while others ringed the vessel in four inflatable boats.

The tanker was boarded in Statoil terminal before it set sail for the US east coast.

Bush: Sees Kyoto treaty as unrealistic and harmful
"We're going after all the American oil we can get our hands on," said Greenpeace spokesman Steve Sawyer in Amsterdam.

He said other US oil shipments would be targeted.

The Cosmic was loading its cargo of oil when it was boarded at Mongstad, west of the capital, Oslo.

A spokesman for the refinery, Kaare Naess, told Norwegian news agency NTB that the protest could jeopardise strict security precautions for loading oil.
