Vandals desecrate Auschwitz cemetery

Reports say vandals have destroyed 39 tombstones in a Jewish cemetery near the former Nazi concentration camp, Auschwitz, in southern Poland.

Police said the destruction probably took place last week.

Among the damaged tombstones was that of Szymon Kluger, the last Jew to live in the town Oswiecim. He died last year.

The graveyard was set up by the Jewish community in the eighteenth century.

Most of the town's Jews were killed during World War II by Nazi occupiers.
