Nuclear train heads for the UK

The transportation of unprocessed nuclear waste in Germany has been the subject of much controversy recently. Anti-nuclear protesters have staged mass demonstrations against reprocessed fuel returning to Germany for storage and also disrupted the resumption of waste exports to France. As the latest shipment of nuclear waste arrives in the UK, BBC News Online looks at the key events.

Trucks carrying nuclear waste leave Neckarwestheim

German anti-nuclear protestors try in vain to stop a convoy of unprocessed nuclear waste leaving the Neckarwestheim nuclear power station. The shipment, the first bound for Britain since the German government halted all nuclear transports in 1998 will be taken to the Sellafield reprocessing plant in the north east of England.
