Russia-Gabon agreement

President Vladimir Putin and his Gabonese counterpart, Omar Bongo have signed new agreements to develop military and technical co-operation.

They were signed after two hours of talks in Moscow, where the Gabonese leader is on an official visit.

The two men, in a statement, expressed their concern about continuing regional conflicts in Africa.

A series of bi-lateral agreements on trade and co-operation in culture and education, are also to be prepared. President Bongo proposed that Russia open a repair and maintenance centre for its Russian-manufactured aircraft in Africa, as many countries on the continent have to send their planes back to Russia for servicing.
