11 die in Russia, Ukraine crashes

Eleven people have been killed in Russia and Ukraine in accidents involving the same type of military helicopter.

Three people died when a border guard Mi-8 helicopter crashed near the city of Ulyanovsk in central Russia.

A similar helicopter belonging to the Ukrainian armed forces later went down in the Kherson region, killing all eight on board.

The causes of the accidents were not immediately known.

Correspondents say the Soviet-designed helicopters have been involved in previous crashes.
