Alan Green
Alan Green is BBC Radio 5 Live's senior football commentator.
He was born in Belfast on June 25, 1952, and attended the city's Methodist College and Queen's University, gaining a BA (Hons) in Modern History at the latter. Green worked in local newspapers before joining BBC Northern Ireland as a news trainee in 1975. He presented current affairs programming on Radio Ulster before becoming a TV news reporter and then switching his attention to sport. He moved to England in 1982 to join BBC Radio Sport, and has since become one of the most recognisable voices on radio, working across the full range of 5 Live's domestic, European club and international football coverage. Green estimates that he sees between 100 and 120 matches a season, and has won the admiration of fans for his honest assessments of games and players' performances. As well as football, Green also works on Radio 5 Live's golf, Wimbledon tennis and rowing coverage. He also presents a weekly show, Alan Green's Sportsnight, in which he discusses the latest sporting issues with guests from the worlds of sport and sports journalism. Green lives with his wife and two children in Cheshire.
