Since joining the Glasgow giants from Galatasaray mid-way through the season he has been largely restricted to occasional appearances when Scottish Player of the Year Barrie Ferguson has been out of action. A competent, industrious all-rounder who is solid in defence - where occasionally he is fielded - but is equally capable of fulfilling the playmaker role in midfield, or appearing on the left of midfield or as a wingback. Began his career with Trabzonspor before joining Gala in 1988 where he quickly made his breakthrough. In 1993 he was a member of the Turkish Olympic under-21 side that won gold in the Mediterranean Games and he won a host of honours with Gala - five League titles and four Cups, including two doubles. Spent his first season at the club in defence but was then moved forward to midfield where he has blossomed. Had a reasonable scoring record in his first couple of seasons in midfield but is rarely seen on the scoresheet these days - although he did score twice against Sparta Prague to give Galatasaray their only Champions' League win. He quickly won international recognition, becoming a firm favourite of Sepp Piontek. But as his career took off on the pitch, off it he developed something of a 'wildman' reputation. Prior to the 1993/94 season he was surprisingly appointed club captain and the gamble paid off as he enjoyed his best season, scoring 12 times and leading Gala to the title.
