Gunes to replace Denizli

Former Turkish coach Mustafa Denizli

Former international goalkeeper Senol Gunes is the man that will replace Mustafa Denizli as Turkish national coach.

Turkish Football Federation vice-president Ata Aksu announced on Wednesday that Gunes had signed a four-year contract in Ankara.

Gunes is most famous for his work with Turkish first division side Trabzonspor, for whom he played in goal and then took over as coach.

Denizli, meanwhile, has agreed a two-year contract with Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Despite receiving massive criticism from the Turkish media and public for the performances of the side during Euro 2000, Denizli became the first national coach to lead the team to the final eight of any major tournament.
