Albert Ferrer

Albert Ferrer
This sturdy defender has proved to be a huge hit in the cosmopolitan set up at Stamford Bridge after his June 1998 move from Barcelona for whom he made 330 appearances.

At the Nou Camp he gathered a hatful of medals, including five Spanish championships, two Cup Winners' Cups, the European Cup, two Super Cups and an Olympic gold in 1992.

Despite being an automatic selection for the national team he initially struggled to play first team football for Barcelona under both Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal, thus precipitating his move to Chelsea.

He made his international debut against Uruguay in September 1991 and will be hoping to impress in the Euro Championships as he missed out in 1996 through injury.
