Santiago Canizares

Josť Canizares Ruiz
Canizares' international career has been a colourful one.

He claimed an Olympic gold in 1992 but really made a name for himself in 1993 making his debut against Denmark in a World Cup qualifier.

Following Andoni Zubizarreta's sending off, Canizares performed heroics assuring Spain of their place at the 1994 World Cup.

He had spells with Castilla, Elche, Merida and Celta before moving to Real Madrid for £2m.

After France 98, he moved to Valencia once more replacing Zubizarreta. He fractured his leg against Dutch club PSV Eindhoven last September but recovered in time to help guide them to the Champions League final.
