Camacho snubs Fiorentina job

Spain coach Jose Antonio Camacho rejected an offer made prior to Euro 2000 to manage Italian side Fiorentina.
Spanish sports daily Marca said that Camacho met with officials from the Florence club in Paris on the day of the Champions League final that featured Real Madrid and Valencia. Camacho was reportedly offered a salary of £1.2m a season, but he made it clear that he wishes to continue with coaching the national side. Camacho led the Spaniards to the quarter-finals of Euro 2000 before a last minute penalty miss by Raul saw them crash out to eventual winners France.
Following Camacho's rejection the Serie A side appointed former Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim. Terim enjoyed a highly successful tenure with the Istanbul giants, leading them to three consecutive league titles in Turkey and victory in this year's Uefa Cup. He has a tough job on his hands though as the Florence club look to recover from a disappointing campaign last season. And they will have to do that without fans favourite Gabriel Batistuta who has been sold to Roma over the close season.
