Man Utd linked with Canizares
![]() Santiago Canizares: Manchester United bound?
Valencia's Spanish goalkeeper Santiago Canizares has received an offer from Manchester United for next season, according to newspaper reports in Spain.
The Spanish international has reportedly impressed United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has had a string of problems with his goalkeepers this season, after the departure of former Danish international Peter Schmeichel in 1999. Sir Alex fielded three keepers in their Premiership-winning campaign - Australian Mark Bosnish, Italian Maissimo Taibi and Dutchman Raimond van der Gouw - but they have been unsuccessful in securing the position as their own. Fiorentina's goalkeeper Francesco Toldo and French international and 1998 World Cup winner Fabien Barthez have also been contacted by the club. Canizares, 30, is playing in Wednesday's all-Spanish Champions League final against Real Madrid at the Stade de France in Paris. United have so far refused to comment on the matter.
