Camacho blow for Ferrer
Spanish national team coach Josť Antonio Camacho has revealed that Chelsea defender Albert Ferrer is unlikely to figure in his squad for Euro 2000.
Camacho made his most explicit declaration yet that the Chelsea star would not make the 22-man squad by saying that it would be "very difficult" for Ferrer to make it into the squad after missing two vital build-up games.
It now seems likely that Juan Velasco and Michel Salgado will compete for the right back slot despite the fact that Chelsea coach Gianluca Vialli rates Ferrer as one of the best man-markers in the European game.
It had appeared that Ferrer would be recalled to the squad after his stunning performance in the Champions' League quarter-final against former club FC Barcelona.
The Spanish right-back is also close to being ruled out of next Saturday's FA Cup final against Aston Villa after breaking down in his latest comeback from an ankle injury.
The former Barcelona defender, who was out for six weeks from the end of January and then damaged the ankle again against his old club in the Champions' League last month, survived only 30 minutes of Chelsea's final Premiership game of the season.
