Gheorghe Hagi
A national hero in his homeland, the 'Maradona of the Carpathians' has won his country's player of the year award a record six times, and was recently named Romania's player of the century.
Euro 2000 will be Gheorghe Hagi's final international tournament, he has been the lynchpin of his national team for over 15 years and although he is in his mid-30s, he still poses a threat in his role just behind the front two.
He has proved in this year's UEFA Cup that he can still compete with the best, but coach Emerich Jenei has admitted Hagi will be used sparingly so as not to burn him out.
He actually retired after France 98 but was persuaded to return to help his country one last time.
It is in the yellow of Romania that he seems happiest, as although he has played for Barcelona, Real Madrid, Brescia and Galatasaray, he has never hit the heights in club football.
