Henning Berg

Henning Berg
Berg has had a topsy-turvy few seasons with Manchester United, failing to hold a regular first team place, despite performing miracles in many of the Champions League games.

The extremely composed and versatile defender signed for Blackburn after an impressive performance for his country against England at Wembley.

Was a pivotal figure at the heart of the defence helping to bring the Premiership trophy to Ewood Park in 1995 and moved to Old Trafford in August 1997.

Berg had originally been to United for a trial in 1988 and Alex Ferguson finally got his man for 5m.

Has shown great diversity in United's defence playing as a full-back and at the centre, combining well with a host of fellow defenders.

Made his international debut in May 1992, beating the Faroe Islands 2-0 and captained Norway for the first time in a 3-3 friendly against France in 1998.

Has played in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups and his experience and calmness will be crucial to the Norwegian cause this summer.
