Eirik Bakke

Eirik Bakke
Bakke has been one of the biggest stars in Leeds' Premiership campaign this season, after impressing David O'Leary in trial at Elland Road last summer.

Signed from Sogndal in May 1999, the tall midfielder took a while to break into the Leeds team but kept his place thanks to his stylish displays after David Batty was injured.

He reportedly turned down moves to Rosenborg and Chelsea to join Leeds and he has clearly enjoyed his time in Yorkshire.

Bakke is a classy ball player whose intelligent passing and gracefulness make him an almost certain starter in the Norwegien midfield if he is fit.

Having already captained the Norwegian Under-21 side, it wasn't a surprise when he made his international debut against Jamaica in 1999.

National team boss Nils Johan Semb wants him to play a part in Norway's Euro 2000 Finals campaign, although Bakke is fighting a race against injury to make Semb's squad.

Even if he doesn't make this summer's tournament, he is sure to be a big star of the future - both for club and country.
