Bjornebye: I'd be an idiot to stay

Norway defender Stig Bjornebye says he "would be an idiot" to stay
at Liverpool after a year spent on the sidelines.
The 30-year-old Norwegian is determined to quit Anfield and is currently weighing up a £300,000 move to team up with old boss Graeme Souness at Blackburn. After a season when he did not make a single first-team appearance, Bjornebye stormed: "I'm not going back to Liverpool - I would be an idiot if I did that." With regard to his possible switch to Ewood Park, the left-back told the Sunday Mirror: "At the moment, with the European championships going on, I'm not in the right frame of mind to make a decision.
"I had dinner with Graeme Souness recently and my agent Rune Hauge has told me my signature is the only thing missing." Bjornebye has slipped down the pecking order at Anfield since the arrival of Gerard Houllier who has preferred the likes of Dominic Matteo and Jamie Carragher in his back line. Indeed, Bjornebye spent part of the season on loan to Danish side Brondby when it became clear first-team opportunitites at Anfield would be limited.
