Carew heads Norway to impressive win
Norway 1-0 Italy
Norway continued their impressive run of form under Nils Johan Semb with a deserved 1-0 win over Italy in Oslo.
Young striker John Carew headed the only goal on 52 minutes to avenge a 1-0 defeat by Italy in the 1998 World Cup finals and send Norway to the European Championships in good heart.
Carew, who leaves Rosenborg Trondheim this summer to sign for European Cup finalists Valencia, headed home a perfect cross from defender Vegard Heggem to give Italian keeper Gianluigi Buffon no chance.
Norway on the other hand have still lost only three matches under coach Semb and had several chances to add to their tally.
Tore Andre Flo wasted the best of them when he headed over the bar with 15 minutes left.
Carew's goal was his third in 13 internationals and means Norway go into next week's finals with just one defeat in their eight warm-up games.
Their only setback came in a 2-0 reverse against co-hosts Belgium at Ullevalfive weeks ago.
