Trapattoni takes over
![]() Trapattoni has been appointed new Italy coach
Italy have named the legendary veteran Giovanni Trapattoni as new coach.
The widely-travelled Trapattoni was appointed after the shock resignation of Dino Zoff. Zoff quit in the aftermath of Italy's Euro 2000 final defeat against France - refusing to change his mind despite appeals from his bosses. Trapattoni has been linked with the post many times throughout a glittering coaching career, and is the most successful Serie A coach ever. He was finally available to take the post after quitting Fiorentina last season. He has also been coach of AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan. Remarkable record Trapattoni has a remarkable record, winning eight league titles, one European Cup, the UEFA Cup three times and the Cup Winners Cup. He has also won the German Bundesliga in 1997 at Bayern Munich before taking Fiorentina into the Champions League in 1998.
