Edgar Davids

Edgar Davids
The main man in the national team, Davids seems to have found the ability to hold his more egotistical urges in check without compromising his dominance on the pitch.

Invaluable for Holland and Juventus by virtue of his fighting spirit, first-class technique and driving runs, the man known as "Pitbull" still gets himself booked on too many occasions.

But barring a red-card disaster Davids - the Roy Keane of the Dutch game - will play a much larger role in Euro 2000 than he did in the last European Championships.

It was then that he stormed out of the Dutch camp, furious with Guus Hiddink, accusing the coach and senior white players of racial discrimination after he played only a substitute's role in one of the first two group games.

But he was back to his best in the World Cup two summers ago and he was on excellent form during Juventus' unsuccessful tilt at the Serie A title this season.

An Ajax debutant at 18, he won three domestic titles, the European Cup, Super Cup and World Club Cup while in Amsterdam before a short and injury-plagued spell with Milan.

He has been at Juventus since Christmas 1997.
