Muhren: There is more to come

Ex-Ipswich and Holland midfielder Arnold Muhren tells BBC Sport Online that despite an indifferent start, the Dutch can still take Euro 2000 by storm.
We did not start very well, everyone recognises that. Sure we began with two victories over the Czech Republic and Denmark, but even the most die-hard Dutch fan cannot say we really deserved them. But I do think now that the tournament is in full swing, we will perform better. The feeling in Holland is that, with so many of our players at top clubs in Europe and home advantage in our favour, we will never have a better chance to repeat our triumph of 12 years ago.
Perhaps the pressure got to the team in those early stages, and when players are tense, they rarely perform at their best. The Czechs clearly outplayed us in the first game and were very unlucky to lose. Our press was very critical following that match, and that must have been playing on the squad's mind as they approached the Denmark game. Again they struggled in the early stages, but I think most would agree that the team relaxed once Patrick Kluivert opened the scoring.
He is naturally left-sided and looked far more threatening in the second-half once he had switched flanks. Holland must play him there, and Marc Overmars on the right wing, if they want to maximise the service to Kluivert and Dennis Bergkamp in attack. I am convinced there is more to come from that pair too. Now Kluivert is off the mark, he should get plenty more goals and I know Bergkamp is still capable of producing that little bit extra when it matters. Terrific atmosphere One player who has not yet made the impression I thought he would is Edgar Davids. Without doubt a key man for Hollland in midfield, I think he has struggled to assert his authority so far. The platform was set for him to be one of the symbols of the tournament, but I think the likes of Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane and Zlatko Zahovic have eclipsed him during the group games. However, if he and his teammates can rediscover their best form, Holland can still go all the way. With a terrific atmosphere in the stadia and people all over the country covered in orange clothes and make-up, the fans are certainly doing their bit. Let's hope the players can now do the same.
