Bode has struggled to hold down a regular place in Germany's first-team over a number of years but he remains a valuable squad member with an impressive scoring record in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen.
He is an uncompromising striker but is equally adept in a number of roles - left wing-back, central midfield or up front where he played with Oliver Bierhoff in the win over Northern Ireland last year.
Bode is another German player pushing the wrong side of 30 but he is very comfortable on the ball and has a remarkable eye for goal.
During the qualifying games for the championships he scored three goals in only four games, and was also one of the top scorers in the Bundesliga throughout the 1999-2000 season. Look out for his lethal left foot.
