Ulf Kirsten

Ulf Kirsten
Played 49 matches for East Germany, but had to wait a long time to convince Berti Vogts, the former coach, he was good enough for the full German squad.

He made his debut for the unified German team in October 1992 against Mexico, but, despite regular call-ups, has spent most of his international career on the bench - missing out on USA 94 and Euro 96.

However, his form in the Bundesliga in recent years has been too good to ignore.

He finished top scorer in the Bundesliga for two seasons, as Leverkusen twice narrowly missed out on the championship, and he earned Germany three vital France 98 qualification points with a hat-trick in the 3-2 victory in Albania.

A physical player, he was handed a nine-match ban last season after being caught on camera hitting Schalke's Thomas Rinke off the ball.

Has scored over 150 Bundesliga goals over a decade.
