Emmanuel Petit

One of the large French contingent at Arsenal, Emmanuel Petit will be hoping that Euro 2000 has a similar ending to the World Cup two years ago.

Back then Petit rounded off France's triumph with the third goal in the closing seconds of the final against Brazil.

It was Petit's second goal of a tournament that he began as a squad member and finished as a national hero.

It capped a memorable season for the Frenchman who had just completed the Double with Arsenal.

Petit joined Arsenal from Monaco where he spent nine years, winning the French championship in 1997.

His game combines strong running and tackling with the vision and passing ability to unlock defences.

His only weakness is his rather suspect temper which has got him into trouble in the past.
