Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka
Anelka has enjoyed a roller-coaster career and although blessed with heaps of natural talent, the youngster is one of the most temperamental players in the European game.

Arsenal realised his potential when they signed him for 500,000 from Paris St Germain in 1997 and Anelka quickly established himself as a key member of the Gunners' 1997-98 double-winning side, scoring nine goals in 40 appearances.

He was Highbury's top scorer with 19 goals the following season, but then famously fell out with the club last summer before eventually joining Spanish giants Real Madrid for a massive 23m.

At first he struggled to settle at Real but showed that he has already shown that he's got what it takes to make a real impact at international level by scoring two goals against England at Wembley in February 1999 and scoring for Real in their Champions League semi-final triumph over Bayern Munich.

With his pace and a good eye for goal, Anelka has the talent to become France's regular striker - but he must shrug off his suspect temperament if he wants to become a world class performer.
