Bernard Lama

Bernard Lama
Was France's first choice for the three years between 1993 and 1996, but lost his place after failing a dope test.

Resurrected his career with a loan deal at West Ham and has since secured the second berth behind his friend and another to fall foul of a drugs bust, Fabien Barthez, in the national team.

Vastly experienced, he likes to dominate his area, which leads to a highly entertaining if gaffe-prone style.

Played in all five of France's matches at the last European Championships, and saved the penalty that saw France put out Holland at the quarter-final stage.

Had to watch Barthez take the plaudits during the World Cup triumph two summers ago and, at 37, is unlikely to make another major international tournament.

Born in French Guyana, Lama played at youth level for his native country before being picked for France Juniors.

In a chequered domestic career he has won the French league, French Cup twice and Cup-Winners' Cup once.
