Petit doubtful with flu
Emmanuel Petit
Petit is struggling to shake off flu in time for the final
French midfielder Emmanuel Petit could miss Sunday's Euro 2000 final with Italy because of flu.

Coach Roger Lemerre told a news conference that he would make a final decision on Petit after assessing the player's health on Sunday.

"There is some worry because he has a cold and he has had a fever but it is too early to make a decision," Lemerre explained.

Petit missed two matches earlier in the tournament because of a sore left knee before returning for France's 2-1 semi-final victory over Portugal on Wednesday.

The French coach refused to drop any hints about his starting line-up but did confirm all his other players were fully fit and available for selection.

If Petit is unable to start, Lemerre may opt to hand his place to Robert Pires or alter his formation to include Youri Djorkaeff, who was sacrificed for the win over Portugal.
