Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer is England manager Kevin Keegan's first choice striker.

His goal ratio at both club and international level is exceptional, and he will be donning the captain's armband for Euro 2000.

Shearer, who was signed by Keegan for £15m when he was in charge at Newcastle, is a strong, uncompromising forward who works hard for the team and possesses a venomous shot.

The Newcastle-born striker, who will retire from international football after the tournament, is hoping to form a lethal partnership with Michael Owen during Euro 2000.

He made his international debut against France in 1992 and although his form dipped at the beginning of this season, he has been back to his best since Bobby Robson took over at St James' Park.
