Sport Online brings you a minute-by-minute guide to England's match against Ukraine.
2000BST: England kick-off in what will be their final match at Wembley before the start of Euro 2000.
2: The former Liverpool partnership of Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler, almost brings England their first real chance of the match, but Fowler is unable to run on to Macca's clever through pass.
4: David Beckham comes close to drawing first blood for England - his free-kick in a dangerous position just flying wide of the post.
6: England's centre-halves struggle to defend Ukraine's attack, with only keeper Nigel Martyn preventing captain Oleg Luzny from giving the visitor's the lead.
8: Paul Scholes latches on to a promising cross from Fowler, but his shot rebounds off the post.
17: Beckham picks out McManaman with a stunning ball, but when collects the return he is only able to fire a shot high and wide.
22: England find themselves more and more on the back foot, but Ukraine are unable to take advantage of their dominant attacking play.
24: A good run and pass from McManaman picks out Beckham on the right but his cross, aiming to find Shearer, is collected by Ukraine keeper Viatcheslav Kernozenko.
27: Luzny's cross-field pass picks out Sergei Rebrov in yards of space on the left but his attempt on goal is poor.
30: An inch-perfect pass from Adams for Fowler, is intercepted just before he is able to steer it goalwards.
33: Andrei Shevchenko corner finds Popov in the box, but his header down is cleared by Steven Gerrard.
37: Beckham intercepts a Ukraine clearance and strides forward to provide a useful cross which Robbie Fowler just fails to get hold of in front of goal.
43: England score the first goal of the match. Beckham's corner is headed on by Shearer and it falls to Fowler who has no trouble in poking the ball in the back of the net.
44: A more confident England side see Paul Scholes close to making it two-nil - but he is beaten to the ball by Kernozenko.
46: The teams go in to the dressing room with the score England 1-0 Ukraine.
46: Shevchenko shakes off Sol Campbell and drills a shot in which Martyn dives to collect.
51: A smart ball from Beckham finds debutante Gerrard but the angle of his shot is too narrow for him to have any decent chance of beating Kernozenko.
55: Shevchenko heads down a fantastic cross from Luzny but is prevented by scoring by Nigel Martyn who pulls off a reaction save.
58: Campbell brings the ball down the left and plays it through for Emile Heskey - a halft-time substitute for Fowler, but his cross is again saved by Kernozenko.
60: Scholes appears to be brought down in the box, but as England appeal for the penalty, Rebrov takes the ball downfield and is brought down by Gerrard on the edge of the area.
61: Nigel Martyn tips the resulting free-kick from Shevchenko over the bar, but Ukraine lose the initiative from the corner.
63: A superb pass from Beckham is squandered by Heskey who pulls his shot wide of the post.
67: England take a two-nil lead after Tony Adams scores from a Beckham corner - the ball being parried by the keeper and rebounding off Shearer before falling to the Arsenal defender.
74: Kernozenko stands up well to deny Emile Heskey a goal after he was sent clear by Nicky Barmby's through ball.
77: Rebrov is close to putting Shevchenko through but the ball runs to close to Martyn in goal.
80: Shevchenko again has a chance to score - but having taken the ball past several players, he fluffs his shot letting Martyn off the hook.
81: At the other end, a deep cross from substitute Gareth Barry finds Heskey at the far post but his soft header is easily tipped over from Kernozenko and the resulting corner is wasted.
82: A promising performance from Gerrard is cut short when he limps off to be replaced by Kieron Dyer.
84: Another superb pass from Barmby finds McManaman but he allows the ball to run away from him and Kernozenko saves easily.
88: A late corner by Ukraine, is intercepted by England who cap off an impressive second-half performance with yet another probing run.
92: Kevin Keegan's side leave Wembley with a 2-0 win, and knowing they had put in a strong performance.
