England-Brazil: Clockwatch
Michael Owen
Goalscorer Owen is frustrated by Emerson this time

Title of factbox here
Replace with FACT tag for each fact
1 min: Brazil get the match underway at Wembley at 15:30 BST following a half-hour delay due to problems on the local London Underground transport system.

Brazil make the first move as Emerson finds himself in space, but Paul Ince shuts him down well.

2 mins: Martin Keown rises high to meet a David Beckham free-kick, but his header is straight at Dida in the Brazilian goal.

6 mins: Gary Neville fails to clear a cross from the right flank and Rivaldo is ready to pounce on a weak header, but his volley is way off target and jeers ring around the famous stadium.
Alan Shearer

8 mins: Rain and hail lashes down on the players... Michael Owen makes his first contribution, but his nod towards goal has little impact.

15 mins: The weather eases and play settles down, though England look the more positive side - another Beckham free-kick swings in and Shearer meets it firmly with his head, though Dida deals with the threat.

20 mins: Dennis Wise is next to drive forward and his shot seems to be heading for the bottom corner of the net until Dida dives low to turn it away.

23 mins: Beckham causes more mayhem as his corner causes a mix-up between Dida and his defenders and Owen scrambles the ball forward but his effort is cleared off the line.

29 mins: Beckham lays the ball off to Ince, who finds Paul Scholes and his back-heel releases Shearer in the box... he shoots low but Dida saves.

35 mins: Rivaldo needs too much time to line up a shot and England kick the ball to safety.

38 mins - England 1-0 Brazil: Shearer holds the ball up well and finds Owen... the Liverpool striker gets his feet tangled at first, but suddenly finds space to rifle in the opener low past Dida.

45 mins - England 1-1 Brazil: Brazil hit back just before the break... Sol Campbell cannot connect with a corner and Franca is there to guide his header past Gary Neville just inside the post. The half-time whistle follows swiftly and England go into the dressing-room feeling frustrated.

48 mins: Brazil have a good chance to go ahead after the restart with a free-kick from 20 yards out, but Rivaldo's shot curls just over the crossbar.

52 mins: Cafu breaks free down England's notoriously weak left-hand side and hearts are in mouths as he takes aim, but his drive is hopelessly off target.

57 mins: Owen starts to run at Brazil and he creates space for a shot at goal, though Dida makes an acrobatic save.

59 mins: Paul Ince is replaced by Ray Parlour and raises a slight injury concern for Euro 2000 in the process. Brazil make a popular change of their own with the introduction of Roberto Carlos.

66 mins: Owen wins a free-kick 25 yards out and all eyes are on Beckham, though he can only drill the ball straight into the Brazilian wall.
Paul Ince

72 mins: Roberto Carlos tries his luck from 30 yards and his free-kick shows more promise, but David Seaman is not unduly concerened as he watches the effort fly past his left-hand post.

74 mins: Seaman is scrambling minutes later as Franca's curling shot beats him and - luckily for England - the post. A very near-miss for Brazil.

79 mins: Sol Campbell has to clear up his own mistake after almost letting in Franca by chesting the ball into his path. The Tottenham defender concedes a corner, but Brazil fail to capitalise.

83 mins: Double substitution for England as Shearer and Owen make way for Kevin Phillips and Robbie Fowler. A standing ovation is given to all concerned, though Owen seems to have earned it most with a lively performance.

Full-time - England 1-1 Brazil: Brazil burst forward again in the three minutes of stoppage time allowed by the referee, but their attack reaps no reward. England bring on Nick Barmby for Ray Parlour but that is the last incident of note in a slightly disappointing second-half.

England: Seaman, P Neville, Campbell, Keown, G Neville, Wise, Scholes, Ince (Parlour 60, Barmby 90), Beckham, Shearer (Fowler 84), Owen (Phillips 84).
Subs not used: Barry, Southgate, Martyn.

Brazil: Dida, Cafu, A. Carlos (Carvalho 81), Aldair, Cesar Sampaio, Silvinho (R. Carlos 60), Amoroso (Denilson 84), Emerson, Franca, Rivaldo, Ze Roberto.
Subs not used: Evanilson, Assuncao, Elber, Germano.
