Despite approaching 37 years of age, Heintze still manages to fly down the wing whenever attacking opportunities arise and consequently can play in a wing-back or conventional full-back position.

His valuable tournament experience, garnered as far back as Euro 88, will be a steadying influence on the younger players in the squad.

He is revered at PSV Eindhoven, where he is enjoying a second spell, having won six Dutch titles and three Dutch cups.

The defender made his debut way back in 1987 in a 1-0 win against Finland and has since gained more than 50 caps, scoring twice.
