Coach pleads with Nemec
The aspirations of Euro glory for the Czech Republic are over, despite the defeat of Denmark in their final game, and their coach is looking to rebuild his team.
Jozef Chovanec, however, is convinced his skipper Jiri Nemec should be part of those plans and says he will try to persuade him not to hang up his boots just yet.
The defensive midfielder Nemec, who plays with German side Schalke 04, extended his record to 82 caps at the European championships, having played in all 10 qualifying games.
As with all managers of teams that have made an early exit, Chovanec's tactics have been under close scrutiny.
Chovanec said he could have chosen a more defensive style in the group stage but had opted for attacking play.
"With the benefit of hindsight some may say it could be better to play more cautiously against France and a draw could be a good result," he told reporters.
"But it was my responsibility and I had decided to play for a victory."
The Czech Republic were unlucky to lose their opening game against the Dutch but then lost 2-1 to France, condemning them to their early exit.
