(Charleroi - Att: 30,000) England coach Kevin Keegan makes two changes from the side beaten by Portugal, as Martin Keown and Dennis Wise replace the injured Tony Adams and Steve McManaman. Germany make four changes, as strikers Carsten Jancker and Ulf Kirsten come in after captain Oliver Bierhoff is ruled out through injury. 3 mins: Germany break down the right in the first attack of the match but Phil Neville covers well and returns the ball to David Seaman, who clears. 7 mins: Christian Ziege fires 25-yard free-kick over the crossbar.
15 mins: Phil Neville's long throw is flicked on by Alan Shearer and returned into the box by Paul Scholes but Ziege is on hand to clear the danger and concede a corner in England's best attack so far. 18 mins: Liverpool's Dietmar Hamann tries his luck from 30 yards out and his shot is comfortably saved by Seaman. 23 mins: Jeremies threads the ball through to Mehmet Scholl and England are relieved to see his weak shot safely held by Seaman. 27 mins: England's defence sits far too deep and the dangerous Ziege shoots from the edge of the box, forcing Seaman to make another low save. 35 mins: Michael Owen's header from Phil Neville's cross is brilliantly pushed on to the inside of the post by Kahn in the German goal as England finally spring to life.
41 mins: Beckham is shown a yellow card for retaliating on Ulf Kirsten seconds after he is denied a free-kick. 42 mins: Jeremies is booked for fouling Paul Ince. 43 mins: Beckham picks out Scholes with a fine cross and his Manchester United colleague forces Kahn into another fine save as England finish the half strongly. 45 mins: England successfully defend two corners in injury-time before Hamann volleys wide from 20 yards. Half-time: England 0-0 Germany. 46 mins: Ziege almost opens the scoring with a powerful free-kick from just outside the box which flies inches over the crossbar.
53 mins: Beckham's superb free-kick squeezes across the penalty area to Alan Shearer who heads into the back of the net at the far post.
58 mins: Scholl wastes a great to chance to level when he drags his close-range shot wide of the far post as England are exposed at the back. 61 mins: Owen is replaced by his Liverpool team-mate Steven Gerrard. 65 mins: England have a big escape when a corner causes chaos. Seaman just manages to kick away Kirsten's shot and Jancker shoots wide with the goal at his mercy. 70 mins: Kirsten replaced by Brazilian forward Paolo Rink. 72 mins: Scholes limps off and is replaced by Nick Barmby. Germany bring on Michael Ballack for Deisler at the same time. 78 mins: Marco Bode replaces Jeremies. 87 mins: A dangerous free-kick for Germany on the right is half-punched away by Seaman as England survive a scare. 89 mins: Babbel is booked for dissent. 90 mins: Two minutes of injury-time to play as England fans have their hearts in their mouths. The defence holds out - and at last, the 34-year wait for a tournament win against Germany is over. Full-time: England 1-0 Germany
